What it Means to Celebrate Love at Christmas

Love is at the very heart of Christmas. Love began with God and defines His character. The birth of Jesus, God’s Son and our Savior, is the Father’s priceless love-gift to the world. A world caught in sin and in need of redeeming grace. God sent Jesus to atone for our sin and make us right with God. I am so thankful. This gift we cannot give ourselves and money cannot buy it.

Gifts to Those We Love

1 John 4:19 We love because he first loved us.

I’ve spent hours figuring out the right gifts to give to those on my list. Why? Love compels me to. Christmas is a time to display love in gift-giving ways. We wrap presents and send pretty cards to the people we truly care about.

Gifts to Those We Don’t Know Personally

And we give to those who need help, too. Love compels us to share with others. I will give the gift of chickens this year to families in far away parts of the world where chickens will provide eggs, meat, and money. There is no more generous time of year than Christmas.

John 3:16 For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Romans 5:8 But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

Be the Example of Love

The best thing we can do is to live lives of love; not just at Christmas but every day. If we are a living example of God’s love at home, at work, and in our communities, life will be a pleasant experience.

The Advent season presents the perfect opportunity to introduce Christ to family and friends. Children learn by example. Teach love and youngsters gain hearts of empathy. Begin by sharing the real Christmas story, but remember the gifts we receive will never be greater than the one best gift of all, Jesus Christ. His love birthed the season. Sing of His holy love.

2 Corinthians 2:8 I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him.
