In the Kitchen with Grandma, by Lydia E. Harris is stirring up tasty memories

Grandparents Day is September 8th. With that special occasion in mind, it’s a pleasure to introduce you to author Lydia Harris and her new cookbook. She’s an expert at stirring up fun kitchen memories with her five grandchildren. And all 100 recipes are grandma-approved and grandkid-tested! Each one is ranked by level of difficulty and includes the prep time needed.

Lydia used her home economics background to write this cookbook. So there’s no doubt grandmas and grandchildren will be ready to make plenty of tasty memories together.

Gluten-free options

As a grandmother myself, with a granddaughter who is gluten intolerant, it’s great to see more than half the recipes are either gluten-free or include gluten-free options. Jillian (age 11) likes to cook with me, but we keep her gluten allergy in mind. Seeing smiles on her face while she kneads dough brings joy to my day. Later, we enjoy our tasty results.

Special Features

This cookbook offers more than recipes with kid-friendly titles. And its pages are organized into seasons and special days. “Springtime Fun” offers Butterfly Waffles and Ladybug Cheese and Crackers. And, come fall, there are Build-Your-Bear Sandwiches, Telescope Roll-Ups, and Fruity Turkey Favors. Lydia knows kids like to do crafts. She wisely added artsy details to the recipes. For example, her Chicken Salad Sandwiches use heart shaped cookie cutters. The recipes taste good and have visual appeal, too.

Lydia’s “A Spoonful of Sharing” finishes off about one-third of the recipes. These are simple conversation starters that open talking points with a grandchild. Christian values set the tone.
