It’s time to bloom again. Stepping outside it’s easy to see Springtime has returned. What lay dormant for months is waking up. Daffodils, Daphne, Forsythia, and Camellias are among the flowers blooming in the Pacific Northwest. And accompanying this beautiful display of color, is the invigorating scent of the Daphne bloom whose fragrance rivals the best of perfumes and simply cannot be ignored.

Stubbornly Determine to Bloom Again

We can all agree the last two years were beyond anything once deemed normal. Too many hard working people suddenly found themselves labeled ‘unnecessary’ as entrepreneurs or employees. Side-lined, with no recourse, they watched dreams fall apart, and piggy banks empty out.

Life’s Testing Times will come. Sometimes our blooms might feel mercilessly torn from the branch. Life has a way of testing our resilience. Will we bounce back or wither? Will we lie dormant for only a season? The only sensible answer is to stubbornly, doggedly, determine to bloom again. Consider labeling those difficult days as a character building course correction—one meant to empower what lies ahead.

We Possess Breathtaking Potential

Len Woods, author of Who Am I In Christ, says: Like our Maker, we have astonishing creative, intellectual, emotional, and moral capacities. We are able to relate to the created world around us in deeply meaningful way. The fact that we bear the image of God means we have great dignity and worth—and breathtaking potential.

Learn From the Flowers of Spring

Now is the time to formulate a better tomorrow. If we look close enough, the flowers of Spring are great encouragers. A season of dormancy isn’t forever. In due time what appears inactive makes a fresh appearance. Beautiful new blossoms open and we are delighted. The cold of winter didn’t win. With roots well-grounded in the soil of persistency, they overcame the frigid temperatures. So can we.

I know our winter seasons aren’t the same as that of a Camelia. Ours might be a season of grief, a serious illness, a career shift, financial struggles, a natural disaster, the result of an addiction, or public shame. Whatever the issue, there’s always hope. God calls us overcomers. When we plant our roots in the nourishing soil of God’s word, our branches will leaf out—new blooms will appear. Most likely, they’ll be even more beautiful than before.

Isaiah 35:2 It will burst into bloom; it will rejoice greatly and shout for joy.

Our Lives Matter

In God’s economy, we are all necessary.  And our lives really do matter. God plants each of us in a specific geographic location, community, and family, to purposely tend His creation. A setback should never mean the work stops or the assignment is no longer relevant. Work is a lot like blooming, because when work skills are set in motion, good is accomplished. Others are blessed and we gain a sense of accomplishment. Are you ready to bloom again?

Prayer:  Lord, create in us an awareness of Your Presence. The days have been difficult. Holy Spirit strength is needed to move beyond fear of failure and confusion. Fill us with wisdom. Equip us with a steadfast resolve for the days ahead. Help us to bloom where we are planted. Amen
