Mist of Life is a poem written to arouse personal reflection.
Who am I? Am I living the life I want to live? Would God say, “Well done?” Or, have I left a trail of broken relationships and sorrow? We are wise to reflect on the course of our lives while there is time to do so. The good news is that God knows where we’ve been. He’s not the least bit surprised by the things that cause us shame. He’s ready to forgive. Forgiveness is ours for the asking and past failures don’t keep our tomorrows from being the best days of our lives. Let’s finish well.
Clowns are fun but let’s not clown around with our lives. There’s so much good we can do and such an amazing legacy to create and leave for our loved ones and communities.
Mist of Life
Who am I, and what are these days called life?
Man’s ageless questions still linger.
A mist appearing, then disappearing,
Scripture reveals these days to be.
Will there be purpose to days I’m given—
Wisdom, peace, real definition?
A treasured value in the memories,
True gladness in the hearts I’ve touched?
Or broken dreams, deep wounds and tears to heal
Where love, real love, has not been shown?
Oh path of life the choices truly lie
Within my own tight grasp this night.
I may choose to love and bestow honor,
Or choose to bring forth hate and strife.
To walk in triumph watered by God’s grace—
Or sadly squander precious days.
When curtain falls and final rest has come
May there be meaning to my quest.
That the path is strewn with wondrous ways;
A mist of fragrant, praise filled days!
The choices are ours to make
The subject of mist speaks to the brevity of life. Whether we squander our lives, or make them count, depends of the choices we make each day. What is the overriding purpose I am passionate about? Am I about that purpose? What stands in my way?
Death comes. Our days are numbered. By God’s mercy we are still breathing and have opportunity to make a difference today. We don’t know how many we’ve been given but we do have the ability to choose how well we will live them.
James 4:13-14 (NIV) Now listen, you who say, “Today or tomorrow we will go to this or that city, spend a year there, carry on business and make money.” Why, you do not even know what will happen tomorrow. What is our life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes.
