Falling leaves, colorful and fun to see, also serve as great reminders for us not to put people on too high a pedastol. No one is perfect. Some might seem to come close but, try as we might, there is no way to achieve total perfection. The day comes when we find ourselves on the bottom rung instead of the top. The Bible says we all fall short. There’s a need to know how to manage the less than perfect moments before they happen. Most of the time messing up is not done on purpose, but it’s common to life’s journey and will happen. Parents, children, co-workers, … everyone lets themselves, or somebody else, down once in a while. If we know how to respond to those fallen moments before they happen we’ll overcome them quicker. Otherwise it’s too easy for belittling, anger, and a third-degree questioning session to break down healthy communication. Why not go outside, pick up a fallen leaf this month, bring it in, and set it on display as a reminder to cut each other a little slack.
